The compact GY-521 module is based on the MPU-6050 NEMS CHIP, and combines a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axle accelerometer with a digital movement processor (digital motion processing "DMP") and a temperature sensor.

The sensor data is read out via the I²C bus, so you only need 2 lines (SCL and SDA) in addition to ser power supply. You can set the I²C address via the PIN AD0 (low = 0x68, high = 0x69).

The chip has a 1024 byte large FIFO buffer, which can be read out via a microcontroller, for example. A sub-i²C bus enables the connection of other I²C sensors, for example, to determine air pressure, poward, or similar.

Thanks to the integrated "Digital Motion Processor" (DMP), complex calculations can also be carried out within the chip in order to relieve the microcontroller.
